Our Fabrics

100% Rayon

Rayon is a wondrous fabric. It is a man-made fibre but because it is cultivated from wood-pulp, it is not synthetic and possesses many of the fantastic qualities of the natural fibres like cotton & linen. The fabric is excellent at colour fastness and maintains its rich colours wash after wash. As it tends to lose strength when wet, we’ve accounted for the shrinkage by washing the fabric before it is cut and once more, after it is made up. As a quality standard, our patterns and seam allowances are adjusted to accommodate this as well. We do this in order to keep the chances of shrinking after purchase down to a minimum.

To increase the longevity of your clothes, do wash it on a cold, gentle cycle and only when necessary. Press on a low to warm heat, on the reverse side, to diminish wrinkles. Rayon is lightweight, luxuriously soft and smooth against your skin and also possesses a silk-like aesthetic with superb drapability. One the benefits of Rayon is that it is excellent at absorbing moisture, more so than cotton and linen! Making it perfect for the hot summer months.

Care:

Hand wash or machine wash with mild detergent (no chemicals) on a gentle cycle.

Handle with extra care when wet and do not over-wring.

Air Dry/Line Dry

Press on low to medium heat, on the reverse side.

Do not tumble dry or dry clean.

When in doubt, hand wash. This is better for your garments as well as the environment.

100% Hemp Linen

This is without a doubt one of our favourite fabrics. A medium weight fabric that is not only good for the environment, it is also incredibly strong & durable. It is stronger than cotton yet it is very soft with great body and possesses a luxe handle. The first time I felt this fabric, I wanted to clothe myself in it entirely. It is a natural insulator, so it has the ability to keep you warm in winter and cool in the summer. It truly is an all-season fabric.

The great thing about hemp linen is that the appearance and handle actually improves with wash. It becomes even softer to the touch, never losing its lustre and the fibres never abrade. Pieces made from this fabric will eventually become heirlooms to hand down to your daughters or nieces; they are exceptional in quality. But my favourite characteristic about hemp linen is that it is naturally anti-bacterial and keeps odours at bay. Which is perfect for when you’re travelling and you don’t want to waste precious time doing laundry every day, and you’d much rather be heading down to the beach.

Hand wash or machine wash with mild detergent (no chemicals) on gentle cycle.

Air Dry/Line Dry.

Press on low to warm heat when damp to get rid of wrinkles easier. I love leaving my hemp linen items rumpled, it has that perfect lived in look about it.

Do not tumble dry or dry clean.

When in doubt, hand wash. This is better for your garments as well as the environment.

As is typical of all natural fibres/fabrics, subtle changes may occur over a period of time but this only adds to its character, making it truly one of a kind.

For our printed items, do not iron on prints. Please press on reverse, on a low heat.

As with all garments that are handmade, you expect a slight in variation in aesthetic. We don't consider this to be "flawed" but what makes the garment truly one on of a kind.
