We are currently producing a range of exploring-inspired wear, screen printed with designs influenced from various cultures around the world. For our first range of prints we’re focusing on Islamic patterns along with a combination of Ndebele influences. Our reasoning behind this is two-fold. We believe that nothing breaks down barriers like travelling does.
In Surah Hujarat, verse 13, God says:
“Human beings, We created you all from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another. Verily the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the most God-fearing of you. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware”.
There is so much to be unpacked in that one verse. Its essence is that we all come from the same mother and father and naturally we have spread all over the earth. But that doesn’t mean that one tribe/country/community is more superior to the other, rather we have to learn from each other to understand that. We have been instructed to do so and one way of doing that is to travel. Whether it be to the next town, city, country or to a place thousands of kilometres away. Travelling provides you with the opportunity to learn about those you share this world with whilst also growing and learning about yourself.
By creating designs inspired by various cultures and applying them to our garments, we’re rediscovering their beauty and highlighting it. We hope that the wearer will be intrigued to discover and seek more knowledge about that particular culture. Thus uncovering more about one another, respecting our differences and appreciating our similarities.
